Best time to visit Greece

Greece is at its best May–June and September–early October. Temperatures are 24–30°C, the Aegean is swimming-warm from late May, and the meltemi (northerly summer wind) is lighter outside July–August. Santorini and Mykonos are unbearable in August with cruise crowds; the Ionian islands (Corfu, Paxos), eastern Aegean (Patmos, Folegandros) and the Peloponnese remain manageable.

May, June, September and early October — warm seas, light winds and full island restaurants without the August crowds.

Frequently asked questions

Is Greece good in October?

Yes — early October is still 22–26°C with swimming-warm seas. From mid-October many island hotels close.

When does the meltemi blow?

Mid-July to late August primarily. It can be uncomfortable on exposed western beaches and disrupts ferry schedules.
