Luxury honeymoon planning

Couples typically invest £15,000–50,000+ in a two-week luxury honeymoon through Apsley; the Maldives' top resorts — Soneva Fushi and Jani, Cheval Blanc Randheli, Velaa, Joali — run £1,500–5,000 per night for villa categories, while safari-and-beach twin-centres start around £20,000 for two. Every honeymoon is designed one-to-one; we don't sell packages.

Twin-centre pairings that work

  • Kenya + Zanzibar / Seychelles — 5 nights safari (Mara conservancy) + 5 nights beach. Under 4 hours between the two by scheduled flight.
  • Tanzania + Zanzibar / Mnemba Island — Serengeti + Mnemba is the intimate honeymoon pairing; add a night on the way in Zanzibar's Stone Town.
  • South Africa + Mauritius or Mozambique — Sabi Sand + Cape Town + Winelands + Mauritius or Bazaruto.
  • Sri Lanka + Maldives — cultural triangle and tea country + a Maldivian atoll. A four-hour hop between them.
  • Italy + Positano/Capri + Sicily — cities + coast for couples who prefer culture and food over pure beach.
  • Costa Rica + St Barths — adventure + polished Caribbean beach for a two-week Americas honeymoon.

Maldives vs Seychelles vs Mauritius

Maldives

One resort per island, private overwater and beach villas, world's most consistent shallow reef snorkelling straight off the villa. Boat/seaplane transfers built in. Best for a two-island stay — one atoll for reef, one for spa or diving. Wet season roughly May–October, dry season November–April.

Seychelles

Granitic islands with genuinely dramatic beaches (Anse Source d'Argent, Anse Lazio), island-hopping between Mahé, Praslin, La Digue, private islands (North, Fregate, Six Senses Zil Pasyon on Félicité). More diverse in landscape than the Maldives, warmer water year-round; peak weather April–May and October–November.

Mauritius

Larger island with mountains, distilleries, rum, golf, botanical gardens — a proper destination for couples who don't want to be resort-bound for two weeks. The One&Only Le Saint Géran, LUX* Grand Gaube and Constance Prince Maurice are the polished options. Peak May–December.

When to go — month by month

January–March: Maldives, Seychelles, Thailand, southern Serengeti calving. April–May: shoulder Maldives/Seychelles bargain; Italy pre-season. June–August: Mediterranean peak, East African migration begins, Botswana dry season. September–October: the sweet spot — migration crossings peak, Med still summer, Maldives shoulder. November–December: Caribbean and Indian Ocean high season; Christmas–New Year is the highest premium week of the year in the Maldives and St Barths.

How Apsley arranges a honeymoon

  1. Confidential intake. If you're planning as a surprise for a partner, we keep all correspondence to the address, phone and inbox you specify — nothing arrives at a shared address.
  2. Concept. One meeting (video or in person) to establish the shape of the trip: single centre vs twin-centre, active vs restorative, culture load, beach non-negotiables.
  3. Proposal. A written itinerary with two or three villa/hotel options at each stop, all-in costs and honeymoon inclusions we've negotiated (bottle of champagne, upgrade at check-in, spa credit — genuinely, not the marketing kind).
  4. Bookings. Deposits secure the properties; balance typically 60–90 days out; PTS 6451 protects every payment.
  5. Concierge on the ground. A named specialist is available throughout the trip for any change — from menu to spa to a switch of the last three nights.

Who this is for

Honeymoons through Apsley suit couples for whom the honeymoon is a genuine milestone spend and where getting it right — the right island, the right villa category, the right week — matters more than the price. We do not sell package honeymoons. We do arrange integrated private jet arrivals into Malé, Victoria (SEZ) or Kilimanjaro when the schedule justifies it, and we plan late-honeymoon safari extensions where the couple wants adventure alongside beach.

Frequently asked questions

What does a luxury honeymoon actually cost?

For two weeks, £15,000–25,000 covers a strong mid-luxury Maldives or Seychelles trip; £25,000–45,000 opens up the top-tier villas at Soneva, Cheval Blanc or a safari-and-beach twin-centre; £45,000–80,000+ moves into overwater residences, private-island buyouts and multi-region itineraries. All-in figures always include international flights, transfers and taxes.

Maldives or Seychelles for a honeymoon?

The Maldives if you prioritise overwater villas, in-villa privacy and consistent shallow reef straight off the terrace. The Seychelles if you want more dramatic landscapes, warmer water year-round and the ability to island-hop between granite islands. Prices are broadly comparable at the top tier; the Seychelles suits couples who don't want to be resort-bound.

When is the best month for a honeymoon in the Indian Ocean?

Maldives: November to April is dry season, with December to March the peak. Seychelles: April–May and October–November are the sweet spots for calm water and warm sun. Mauritius: May–December is broadly good, with August–October reliable. Avoid the wet-season peak (July–August in Maldives, December–February in Seychelles' north-west monsoon) for pure beach weather.

Overwater villa or beach villa?

Overwater is the honeymoon icon — direct reef access, privacy, sunrise or sunset views. Beach villas are typically larger for the money, cooler in the day, and often better for two-week stays. Many couples split — three or four nights in one category, then move for the second half. Apsley pre-negotiates in-stay category upgrades where feasible.

How far ahead should we book?

For Christmas–New Year Maldives at Soneva, Cheval Blanc or Velaa, 12–18 months. For August European honeymoons in Italy or Greece, 9–12 months. For most other windows, 6–9 months is comfortable. Late bookings (6–8 weeks) are possible but choice narrows sharply on the strongest villas.

Can you arrange proposals and celebrations?

Yes — anything from an in-villa proposal set-up (photographer, private beach, ring security) to full destination weddings and vow renewals. Every property we recommend has a wedding coordinator, and we vet the ones who deliver. Give us at least 4 months' lead time for a properly staged proposal.

What about a minimoon or shorter escape?

5–7 nights in the Amalfi Coast, Ibiza, Marrakech, the Cotswolds' finest, Iceland or a Caribbean short-hop all work well. Budget £5,000–15,000 for two, all-in. We plan minimoons frequently for couples who take the full honeymoon later in the year (or on a milestone anniversary).

How do you keep an enquiry a surprise from a partner?

Tell us at the outset. All correspondence, calls and documentation go to the address, phone and email you nominate — nothing arrives at a shared inbox. We can meet you in-office or by video at a time when your partner is elsewhere. Deposits are taken by card or bank transfer with a discreet descriptor.
