Frequently asked questions

Is the Bhutan tourist tax compulsory?

Yes — every visitor pays a daily Sustainable Development Fee (currently $100 per person per night) on top of accommodation and other costs. We include this in our bespoke quotes.

How fit do I need to be for Tiger's Nest?

Reasonably fit — the hike is around 5 km return with a 700m elevation gain, taking 4–6 hours. Horses are available for the lower section.

When is the best time to visit Bhutan?

March–May (spring) and September–November (autumn) offer the best weather and the most spectacular mountain views.

Can I attend a Bhutanese festival?

Yes — we time itineraries with the Tshechu festivals across the country and arrange reserved seating.

How long do I need in Bhutan?

Minimum 5 nights for a Paro-and-Punakha circuit; 7–10 nights for the full Aman or Six Senses circuit; 12+ nights to include Bumthang.
