How long should you spend in Italy?

Italy is best taken in regional chunks. 7 nights gives you one region well (Tuscany, Amalfi or the Lakes). 10 nights gets two regions. 14 nights is the sweet spot for first-time grand tours. Beyond that, multi-island combinations (Sicily, Sardinia) and Puglia open up.

10–14 nights is ideal for a first trip — pair Rome, Florence and Tuscany with either the Amalfi Coast or the Italian Lakes. 7 nights for one region; 18–21 nights for a full north-to-south grand tour.
