A top-tier African safari costs roughly US$1,200–$2,500 per person per night at the leading lodges — Singita, andBeyond, Wilderness, Great Plains. A one-week luxury safari for two therefore typically runs £25,000–£60,000+ including internal light-aircraft transfers. Entry-luxury camps drop to US$800–$1,200 pp/night; exclusive-use villas rise to US$2,500–$5,000+. International flights are additional and green-season departures save 30–40% on the same camps.

US$1,000–$2,000 pp/night at the mid-luxury tier; US$2,000–$3,500+ at the top end (Singita, Wilderness Bisate, private villas). A typical high-season week for two with three camps and bush flights runs £25,000–£45,000; the same at Singita or in exclusive-use villas £60,000–£100,000. Green season saves 30–40%.
Kenya is typically 10–15% cheaper than Tanzania at equivalent tiers, largely because of shorter internal flights and slightly lower camp rates. At ultra-luxury (Singita-equivalent) pricing is broadly comparable. See our Kenya vs Tanzania comparison for the full trade-off.
The migration is year-round: calving in the southern Serengeti Jan–March, crossings in the Mara River area roughly July–October. Peak season pricing applies during river-crossings; calving in January–February sits at shoulder pricing despite arguably better predator action.
For clients who value exclusivity and low-density concessions where you rarely see another vehicle, yes. For a first safari with children where big-five sighting rate matters most, Sabi Sand (South Africa) or the Masai Mara often delivers more per pound. Budget 25–40% more for Botswana at the equivalent tier.
Bush flights (Cessna Caravan or similar) between camps run US$400–$900 per person per hop depending on route. A typical three-camp itinerary has two hops = US$800–$1,800 pp on top of camp rates. International flights to Nairobi / Kilimanjaro / Johannesburg are separate — economy £900–£1,500pp, business £4,500–£7,000pp.
For peak-season Singita, andBeyond exclusive-use and the strongest gorilla lodges, 12–18 months. For mid-luxury camps in shoulder season, 4–8 months is usually enough. Christmas–New Year and August school holidays close out earliest.
The classic pairing. Kenya connects to Seychelles or Zanzibar; Tanzania to Zanzibar or Mnemba; South Africa to Mozambique's Bazaruto or Mauritius. Typical honeymoon: 5 nights safari + 5 nights beach + international flights.
