The Mediterranean charter season runs from May to October. Peak (mid-July to mid-August) is expensive, busy and hot — brilliant for the Balearics and party circuit; less so for the crowded French and Italian Rivieras. May–June and September are the sweet spot for the western Med, with warm sea, quieter ports and roughly 15–25% off peak rates. October is the last month for reliable weather in the western Med; the Greek islands and Turkey extend into early October.
Mediterranean yacht season runs May to October. French Riviera and Italian Riviera peak in July and August; Croatia and Greek islands are best May–June and September; Balearics peak June–September. Book peak weeks 6–12 months out on strong 40m+ yachts.

September for the western Med — warm sea, quieter ports, cooler evenings, best-value peak weather. June for Croatia and the Greek islands. Mid-July to mid-August is peak in every sense — best for the Balearics/party scene, hardest for anywhere you want to feel private.
For a 40–50m superyacht in the French Riviera peak week: €200,000–€450,000 base weekly, plus 30% APA, plus 20% VAT (France), plus 12% gratuity. All-in roughly €320,000–€720,000 for the week. See our superyacht charter cost guide for the full breakdown.
For peak July–August on 40m+ yachts in the western Med, 6–12 months. For May–June or September, 8–16 weeks is usually enough. For Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival or Cannes Lions, 9–12 months minimum — berths are the constraint.
French Riviera for the scene, restaurants and named ports (Saint-Tropez, Monaco, Portofino). Croatia for genuinely uncrowded cruising, dramatic scenery and 13% VAT vs 20%. If it's a first Med charter and you want the icons, Riviera. Second charter or repeat visitor: Croatia rewards.
Meltemi is the strong northerly wind that blows across the Aegean in July and August, most days. It reshuffles anchorages daily (sheltering behind the leeward side of each island). Captains work around it; guest experience is largely unaffected. Ionian and western Med are unaffected.
Standard practice. Private jet to Nice, Olbia, Split or Palma; tender waiting at the FBO for a 15-minute run to the yacht. Return the same way. See our private jet charter cost guide for aircraft options and pricing.
